    Default omg.. EMA goin.

I was talking to my form tutor today in College, and we were talking about how parliement wants to put through that requirement of everyone staying in school till they're 18. Apparently if they do so, EMA (Educated Maintenance Allowance) will be axed. I don't recieve EMA but I know so many people who depend on it throughout college, along with bonuses and stuff. Frankly, that screws over most colleges and it stops people even attending them?

I was just like shomg when I found out... I struggle to get to College sometimes but people who really have money problems will be stuffed in the future. What dya think? And yes, this is all true.

Personally I have a buspass to get to school but I know people who pay £2 to get up and back and then have £1 for their lunch and it just isnt fair that when these guys get into 6th form they'll have to survive on £1.

makes sense to me, the reason they do ema is an incentive for people to go to college. I very much doubt they'll leave the people who REALLY need it without any financial bonus's, half the people don't need it anyway. They wont put the law into place anyway.

I know people who seriously need it. Their parents are seriously underpaid and rather tight. If that happened then damn, unlucky. I'm not saying this just for present tense, but in the future there's always going to be a few who have the same situation. I live 30 minutes away from College, I pay £400 per school year on travel alone, and then there's book fees and lunch. Considering that, it's going into close £700-800. I'm sure there's others who can't do that due to their EMA but try to survive. I know that people splash out when they get their bonus, but some genuinely need it.

some people do actualy need it, but a lot don't. if they dont axe it altogether then factors which affect how much money people get should be revised and perhaps changed.

I dont get EMA, so it wouldnt really affect me.
But i do find it unfair also, as some students only go for the EMA, and i dont see why it should run off your parents earnings, as its not your parents that are attending, and even if your parents over the amount of whatever it is, that still shouldnt mean you dont get money as its not really yours to spend?
I strongly disagree with ema, so i wouldn't be bothered if it goes..
But, i doubt it will, as as you stated, many colleges will loose out on students etc.

The government is stupid they care too much about how the country is viewed rather than the people living in it.

Seeing as they're doing virtually everything the Scottish do, why not just kill off University Fees too? Oh wait, that'd be logical... Only reason Scotland doesn't do EMA is because of that. Then again, dunno if they don't do it! Some people I know are saving up their EMA for University fees since they can't afford it all. It really is shooting some people in the foot, and I know I'm doing that myself with all my earnings.
