It's a way to get a cheaper number that'l go through to the same line. It works with 0900 numbers too. Sometimes it even has freephone numbers.
It's great when you spend hours on a technical support line paying 25p+ per minute when you could be paying half that or even nothing!
This website is so useful I wouldn't be surprised if this thread were stickied. Not sure if I posted it in the correct forum though.
