Default Call of Duty 4 - Help.

I have a few questions to ask and I need a few pointers, I am currently Level 17 and use a mix of M16(Red Dot Scope) & M40A3 for sniping. I wanted to know how do people get 20-30 kills when I average about 5 a match?
I havent got much weapons unlocked, though whats the best all rounder weapon, I need some tips asap. Also Whats the best perks to use and can someone give me a breif outline on each map wether it's sniping or assault.
Thanks alot and +rep to all sensible answers.

The people who get 30 kills or something they're probably really good or they're noob tubing. (RPG's and Rockets)

After a few months of play you'll be able to get like 30 kills a match, you just have to get a good feel for the game, what guns are better on what maps, which perks work best with these guns, how you personally prefer to play etc.
Give it 2-3 months and you'll be getting 30 kills a match if you get a hang of the weapons in the game, in the majority of my games I get 30+ kills and I'm not a pro at it, you'll see people on it that will come along and get like 50 kills and 5 deaths (that's if you play HQ enough)

Like D4n said use stopping power with your guns, it helps, I would suggest using Badolier when you unlock it whenever you use an SMG because they haven't got a huge amount of ammo
Extra frags or special grenades help with an M16 class, personally I use bomb squad on everything but SMG classes, unless it's a ghost class then I use bomb squad as an exception, you really just have to play about, see what works better for you, red dot sight is easily the best addon for most of the guns, if you go sniper I wouldn't suggest using the ACOG scope, some people like it but I don't quite understand why, ghost classes should use silencers on both weapons, anything else would be better with red dot sight but it's all down to personal preference

My best was 52 kills on Wetwork..
    My setup was:

    MP5 with red dot
    Golden desert eagle
    Three Frags
    Deep Impact
    Martyrdom

Not sure about the perk but the rest are sure..

I like the m4 carbine with red dot. Perks are deep impact, deeper penetration, bandolier. That works a charm!

Use a SMG if you need quick fire bullets, the AK47-U or p90 (which you don't have i think) are good.. but otherwise use the Mp5, that is also good..

Also, you need good reflectes, when you go around the corner look all around yourself, when I watch my brother play he just runs straight out of a door, and gets shot a lot.

ACOG R700 works great on Wetworks and Bog!

When unlocked, the G36C is pretty sweet with a grenade launcher. Mostly 'cause the beast almost fires in a straight line from the hip. Though until then I'd suggest M4 with red dot. UAV jammer always for me. Silenced pistol, bomb squad/claymores, dead silence. Usually deep impact until dead silence is unlocked.

As Neil said, it really is down to experience and comfort. When you know which set-up works best you'll be able to play much better.

I often "Ghost" about on matches purely because if you're enemy doesn't know where you are it is a great advantage.

When I play hardcore modes I can flank with ease and simply pick up 4/5 kills instantly. But if you're playing HQ i wouldn't reccomend it, you need brute power in that to clean up if someone else is capturing the HQ. I'd reccomend the G36 when you unlock it or the M4 with either Grenade Launcher or red dot sight.

For sniping it all depends on what mode and what gun you feel right with, I personally like the M4 whatever it is and the M21 sniper.
