debit card question

i just got my debit card, however i have no idea where im meant to sign on it.
the letter that came with it just says 'youll need to sign your card straight away'
is it on the little silver strip, or in the space below.
i know it sounds like a stupid question, but ive been waiting for this for months, and i dont want to muck it up
