Do you think that one Politician or MP can make a difference to the whole Country, or that they are quite powerless?
Do you think that a Soldier, Emergency Services or other 'front line' personnel who deal with the Governments policies would make good Politicians and MPs as they've had experience in these sectors?

Yes, I think one MP could make a big difference, however I don't think Police Officers etc would make good MP's.

I'd like to think an MP could make a difference but I can't think of any past occurrences or examples. David Davis's recent attempt to make a big difference was a big fail at no fault of his own.

Indeed an MP needs to be knowledgeable in more than one area, generalised and rounded being the term. It's rather good as it is as senior Police Officers etc do try to guide the Government and Councils. But it always does strike me as odd that just any politician can become 'Health secretary' despite never being involved in the health sector, and that someone who doesn't know too much about the economy can just become Chancellor of the Exchequer. The cabinet is very much a hierarchy and not skills in sectors being shared out.

Winston Churchhill is the only one I can think of really. Perhaps you could say Thatcher aswell, however this shows you have to be pretty senior to make any difference.
