    Default 2g vs 3g?

    Hiya.

Basically I have been offered an iphone from a mate for £200. It's 8gb and all unlocked and jailbroken.

It's basically brand new though as it was hardly used at all and is in brilliant condition.

It's 2G though, not 3g. I've been looking on ebay and that though and even 2g 8gb iphoens that are up to a year old are going for like £250 and the 3g ones like £300+

Therefore I am just wondering like whether you guys think I should just go for it? Is 2g still ok? lol

I used to have an ipod touch and the internet on that didn't really bother me and was fast enough for me I guess...?

    Thanks!

Nooo, it does have GPRS, but not GPS.

iPhone3G uses sattelites and the network to get your location, the iPhone 2G only uses the network.

I read that iPhone 2G doesn't have GPS, only Google Maps. Sorry, got a bit mixed up.

iPhone 3G, 2G, iPod Touch all use Google Maps but to find your current location:

iPhone 3G - GPS Satellites and Cellular Triangulation
    iPhone 2G - Cellular Triangulation
iPod Touch - Known WiFi locations

rumour has it the iphone 2G looks better with the metal back, I haven't owned either though so I can't speak from experience. Otherwise they seem pretty much the same, especially if you put the latest firmware on. So it really depends if you're bothered about not having 3G internet and GPS or not
