    Default A13 Rule..

A13. Leave moderating to the moderators – If you see someone breaking a rule, click the report post icon on that post with a brief description. Also, you may not discuss bans on the forum. If you wish to dispute a ban use the Support System. Also, you should never ignore a moderators warning, change their warnings, or open a thread they have closed.
I think this rule is stupid because we are only telling others not to swear or spam. I think this rule should be taken out. It's like making us report a post for a pointless reason.

I think it's good because you're not going to want other users telling you what to do as it just encourages argument along the lines of "who the hell are you to tell me what to do". If you want to be helpful, just report the post. It's the same in real life if someone who is at the same "status" as you tells you what to do you'd be like "errr... excuse me?!"

Depends on the context, if someone is just swearing it's alright for whoever to say "Do stop swearing". But not enforcing anything.

I don't think that should necessarily be the case. For example, say you made a post with loads of swearing I could quote it and say "You don't have to swear to prove your point.." but then move on to make sure the rest of the post relates to the thread. If I just went to a random thread saw someone swearing and just said "Don't swear, it's against the rules" then I'd be falling foul of the A13 rule, surely.

Isn't it rather hypocritical making a post telling someone to stop pointlessly posting or spamming. Because in my eyes, any post doing that is just getting an easy post count and isn't contributing to the topic at all. It could fall under 'Trolling' though I suppose as commenting on rule breaking often winds people up.

Which is why I said context If someone was just blindly swearing like a girl on heat, I'd say "Do stop swearing, you're making no sense". That isn't against the rule, because that's opinion. The rule states don't point out the rules to people (basically) and saying "Don't swear" isn't against any written rules It's the same with I hate PS3s and I love 360s opinions. Opinion, not written rules

Just saying "Stop swearing" maybe against pointless posting rules, but only if they don't later say why. Someone could write in reply to that: "What do you mean?" and if the first person replies it isn't pointless, unless they say "Because it is" but I don't dignify that as a reply

Well by actually telling members not to swear or spam and not adding anything to the context of the thread could be actually breaking 3 rules, depending on the post:

    1. Leave the moderating to the moderators

    2. Spamming the thread yourself

    3. Posting to cause an argument.

IMO It is not the rule that is the problem it is the need of the member to tell someone else off and presumably see it in black and white. The report button is there to use if you are unhappy about a post and it's a great deal quicker too.

    Have you tried doing this?

Last time I reported a post it took the moderators 3 hours to respond.
