    -Yawn, ok, here it goes.

First off, you'll want to delete your internet files, temps, caches.
You can do this by going into Start > Control Panel > Internet Options, and deleting them from there. You can also download ATF cleaner, which does an amazing job cleaning off the files you really don't. Last, but not least, is CC cleaner. It will clean your registry files aswell, which will make your computer faster.

Next would be getting a good antivirus program(s). Free: Avira Antivirus (AntiVirus) + Online Armor (Firewall) + Bluecoat K9 (Parental Control). Yeah, you're like PARENTAL CONTROL? You can choose what to block, like known sites that have malware and spyware. I use it mostly for that, and it works amazingly.

    Other programs would be (Free):
    SpywareBlaster
    SpywareGuard
    Spybot - Search and Destroy
    SUPERantiSpyware
    Ad-Aware
    a-squared

Most say Spy(something), and will catch a hell of a lot of known virus' and other things you don't want on your computer.

    Hope this helps! Good luck!

    Edit: 500th post!

For a start, never have more than 1 firewall or Anti-Virus on your computer. Maybe 1 anti-virus and also a malware / junk cleaner, but never more than one anti-virus on your computer as it will slow it down majorly.

Also when you start up your computer, i reccoment starting task manager up and then ending processes that are running that you dont need e.g. windows side bar, adobe speed launcher, etc, simple things like that.

    I reccomend AVG for anti-virus.
Good Firewall e.g. ZoneAlarm (NOT windows, its not as good as you think it is)
HijackThis to remove any unwanted process on start up. If you DL and install HijackThis, then post your scan log / mail it to me and il tell you what unwanted processes you can remove which will help speed up your PC

Also, another thing to help it run smoother,

    1. Open Notepad
    2. Type in it "MYSTRING=(80000000)" <Without the "" marks
    3. Save the file to your desktop as "MEMORY.VBE" < Without the "" marks
    4. Youl now notice a script icon on your desktop. Double click it and itl help boost ur RAM

I could hack AVG within 2 minutes. And you can have 10000 AV programs on your computer. Aslong as only 1 is running real time.

you cant 'Hack' AVG tbh. unless you work for grisoft and know the source inside out, which i doubt it. and why would you have all the bases of loads of anti virus programs on your computer? its just plain stupid. you only need one, and good security expert could tell you that

Seeing as I am the Tech Security Admin at work, I think I know a bit more than you. Each program finds stuff that the other one could miss. It's called extra security. And do you know how many times the source code for AVG has been posted on underground forums? You could google it but you'd never find it. The AVG server that has the source code on it has so many open ports that a script kiddy could get into it. You can have as many programs on your computer as you want, it just depends on how much security you want. Lots of times 1 AV program will find a virus, and the other won't. Sometimes it takes time for 1 program to put out an update.
