Windows Live Essentials are Essentials for windows live
Windows Live Sign in Assistant is for when you have trouble signing in
Windows Live Upload Tool is for uploading fileS (i think)

I believe the upload tool is for uploading images and files to Windows Live services, such as Windows Live Gallery. I don't think it will effect uploading music and pictures to contacts on MSN, that's part of the essentials.
