Hard drive

Well i have a 500 gig external hard drive and im wanting to share it between 2 computers which are proberly 5 ft apart, is there any way i can do this using usb or anything. my external is a elements hard drive like this;

Are the computers networked?

Yes to a router, im going to wire them both though instead of using wireless or one might be wired and one wireless not sure yet.

You can share it via one computer and as long as that computer is turn on the other computer will be able to access it.

Install the HDD, then go to 'My Computer' right click, select properties, the go to network and sharing tab (Which ever tab) and it should say something like 'Share over the network'.Then on the other computer, goto network (Vista) or Network Places (XP) go to the workgroup, open the computer that the HDD is on and look for the hard drive which should be networked, then right click that and map as network drive. It will then allow you to set it as a drive letter and e' voila it is done...

(Just make sure there is nothing to do with opera on the HDD)

I've done that ^^ on the other computer it doesnt come up?
One pc is on xp and one is on vista does that matter
