In Afghanistan.. 8 in 24 hours. The total number killed in Afghanistan has passed the number killed in Iraq.

    RIP

Good luck to DJ-Cookeh who is out there with his brother.

I'm surprised there is no thread about this? Too busy talking about that American singer dying?

I think military spending should be drastically increased, at the moment the United Kingdom spends around 2.4% of GDP - i'd argue to increase that to levels such as 3.0% to 5.0%. I think our armed forces will be needed more than ever before, both militarily and politically. We need our armed forces and navy to be as big and self-independant as possible as ever before so we can keep a sovereign military, and that would rule out the European Union argument that we need the European Union to form a military.

We also need our nuclear system (Trident) more than ever before, with the rise of the Peoples Republic of China especially, and with other nations such as Pakistan, India, Brazil, a United Korea and the dormant Russian Federation still about and in some cases, growing - we need Trident more than ever before.

While I argue for growth in Navy such as more large aircraft carriers to be ordered, Trident to be renewed and possibly enlarged I think an even more important issue for now is army equipment, for the government to have sent our men and women into Afganhistan and Iraq without the correct equipment is disgrace.

Finally RIP to those who died in Afganhistan, it must be awful for their family and friends.
