I don't think that people shouldn't be allowed to sign up with them. I know it was done for their own security to do with reverting emails and whatnot, but surely it should be their own responsibility to make sure their accounts are secure. People who have those emails and try to register probably won't want to create a new email with google mail or something similar just to sign up here..

    Thoughts?

I think in the mean time it still needs to be more clear, as an existing member contacted me asking why their email had been banned asking what they had done. So

Yeah. It will really put people off. I know this is the case because I've had people on Habbo ask me and say they're not making a new email just to sign up. It's not like it tells you why when you register. From what I gather just says "your email is banned" or whatever. If I got that on a site, I'd assume there were troubles and move on.

I think it should be scrapped altogether. All emails are relatively easy to compromise with the right information. If anything you need less information for a google mail account. Also, we have to remember that it doesn't matter about users. If they get compromised they will be temporarily banned until things are sorted.

It wasn't having such a detrimental effect on the forum that such a drastic change needed to be implemented. I didn't even notice users getting hacked all that much, a few times, yes. That's always been the case and is always going to be the case.

I'm sure management looked at the pros and cons before implementing the idea but I really think they got this wrong and the cons of the idea are far stronger than the positive aspects of it, which are small in comparison. I think it should be changed back rather than scaring people away.

If management don't agree with it being removed, it could just be removed for new users signing up and 'normal' members, but staff would have to use alternate emails. Afterall, if a 'normal' user's account was compromised, all they could really do was post a few odd things here and there, which could be done by the actual member should they feel in the need to do so. But if it was a staff members account, the 'hacker' could gain access to things they should't ie. future updates and such. I can see why it was added as I said before but for normal users, no. Staff, maybe.

That is the case already for staff and for anyone who now signs up as from the date it was implemented.
