Default Vista - Slow Start Up

I've recently had a new graphics card fitted and now my PC loads really slow. It takes about 3-4 minutes for the desktop to show. Anyone suggest what I could do? I've tried disabling some services/start up programs. It's fine when the desktop appears but before that, it has the black loading screen for ages. :S Thanks.

Do you have a disc in?
When I do it takes a hell of a lot longer to load up, but without it's fine

It's probably one of these weird situations where after a few days it begins to work. Either that, or whatever you installed with the graphics card is trying to start-up at start up.

Do you have a duo/quad processor? Most computers come with settings that only use 1 processor, wasting the other (one/three). You can split the load between the processors.

Is your IP static? Dynamic IPs take up a bit of your boot time.

If you have Norton, get rid of it.

How many fonts do you have? I learned from a computer course that all your installed fonts load during your boot time so if you have a lot of them, get rid of the ones you don't need.

You could upgrade to 7, make sure MSN isn't starting at startup, check anti-virus to make sure it's not scanning at startup.

Do a disk defrag and disk cleanup.

I'll try and split the processors. I don't have many fonts, just the ones that came with Vista and I don't have Norton. Thanks, I'll try the processors bit.

Would upgrading to 7 remove all my stuff from my PC?

Did you switch from an NVIDIA to ATI graphics card or vise versa?
