    Default VGA cable

I posted saying that there were weird white lines on my screen, and I have found the problem: the VGA cable. Something's interfering, possibly the other cables, my modem or my router. When I move the VGA cable it clear up a lot, but it's still faintly there, so I'll be buying a shorter VGA cable.

I've just got a couple of questions... and I think they're nooby but hey, they'll be easy to answer.

My gfx card has a DVI port, VGA and HDMI port. My monitor only has a VGA port. If I used a DVI to VGA cable would the image be digital quality or analogue quality (even if there's not much difference)?

Also, is it possible to have HDMI to VGA? Would there be any quality difference from VGA to VGA?

Basically, I want to know if it's possible to use a digital connection through a VGA port?

    Cheers.

Just stick to VGA > VGA.

For DVI/HDMI > VGA you have to convert it I think.

    As I thought

Anyway, no you can't put a digital signal through VGA. It might be worthwhile getting a VGA cable with ferrite beads or some other electromagnetic interference reducing device/feature.

No. Get a decent, shielded VGA cable and you'll be fine. Get this idea of using DVI to VGA being better out of your head.

Regardless of it being better or not, the digital signal wouldn't get interference like a VGA cable though...

I'll buy a shielded VGA cable.

    Thankssssss.

It will be an analogue signal if it's being converted to VGA :eusa_wall.

DVI (or digital signals) is still susceptible to interferance anyway

Not really as the data is transmitted in binary (ie. high or low) so unless the interferance is so great the signal is completly switched or does not get there at all then it will have no effect.

Exactly, but tbh I prefer analogue interference There's nothing worse than watching TV during a thunderstorm or something and everything cutting out! At least with analogue you could vaguely see a snowy picture!

Nope, that's when the roof caves in and lets in snow...
