TWO people have been arrested and part of the M1 closed after a bus stolen from Wakefield was taken on a terror ride.
The single decker Arriva bus - which had no passengers on when taken from the city centre at about 4.20pm on Sunday August 16 - collided with a shop, vehicles, members of the public and at least one police car as it was driven through Wakefield, Ossett, Dewsbury, Batley, Horbury and Neverton before going on to the M1 at Junction 39.

A West Yorkshire Police helicopter and cars chased the bus and as it turned onto the motorway officers managed to burst one of its tyres.
The bus driver then crashed into the central carriageway and barriers several times, destroying the front of the vehicle, before coming to a halt a few miles later near Junction 41.

A man and a woman were arrested from the bus and are in custody.
The M1 northbound was also closed for debris to be cleared and the bus to be recovered.
A police spokesman said on Sunday evening that the motorway should be reopened "fairly quickly" and no injuries had been reported.
