    Default Post strike dates announced

It has been confirmed postal workers will stage two nationwide strikes next week in a bitter row over pay, jobs and working conditions.
About 42,000 mail centre staff and drivers will walk out on October 22 for 24 hours, followed by another 24-hour stoppage on Friday 23 by 78,000 delivery and collection staff.
The industrial action is set to cripple mail deliveries and could cost the UK economy hundreds of millions of pounds.
The Communication Workers Union says it has made a "genuine offer" to avert a national strike.
Union bosses accuse the Royal Mail of rejecting it without proper consideration.

Damn the unions. Their demands are completely unreasonable considering Royal Mail is making losses and desperately needs to modernise, and need I say we're still in a recession. Not only can the workers not really afford to strike, they're pretty lucky to be in a job while the rest of the UK suffers redundancies, lack of jobs and pay freezes.

The government should sell off Royal Mail and then auction off Postcodes, then the competing mail delivery services can bid to deliver the mail in certain regions. Earns a bit of money for the government and stops everyone being affected by strikes.

My view on this is the same as one with the waste collectors. If they don't like their pay, just get rid? There are thousands of people with no jobs who would love to get some money, who would happily take their jobs.. then there are some who are bringing the whole country to a stand-still so they can get a few extra pounds.

    Crazy.

If you all think we have too many strikes as it it now, just wait until the Conservatives gain power - the Unions loathe everything the Conservatives stand for and will not hesitate in striking all the time to undermine the incoming government.

Isn't the strike mainly regarding job cuts and not for an increased salary?

Gutted for them when they have to go back to work on the 24th and have double the amount of work to do.
