Just got an iMac and need help

Just got it literally an hour ago and I'm unsure about pretty much everything since I have always used Windows before. If you could answer any of these questions at all I would really appreciate it.

1. It came with 3 disks called: Mac OS X Snow Leopard, Mac OS X Install DVD and iMac Applications Install DVD. What are all of these? Especially the Leopard disk because it sounds like another operating system? :S

2. Is the line of applications on the bottom of the homepage all the applications it has or just the short cuts to some of them? If so, where do I find all of them?

3. On the box it mentions things like iLife, what is that?

4. What do I do about anti-virus? Something makes me think that it needs something other than AVG but I don't know...

5. It came with a wired mouse with a ball in the centre, does it have a right click?

6. When opening windows, there are 3 circles to either close the window, minimize it or change the size of it somehow. I assumed that the green + would enlarge it to fit the screen but it doesn't seem to. Is there any other way of making a window fit to the screen than stretching it?

I think that's just about it, all help would really be appreciated and +repped. I am using my old laptop at the moment while the iMac does some kind of software update S) lol.

2: Shortcuts, theres an application folder. Press the apple button on the keyboard and 'A'
3: iLife is like the Apple media suite, iMovie, iPhoto, iWeb etc http://www.apple.com/ilife/
4: I've never bothered tbh.
5: you can right click by pushing apple key and clicking, other than that it does not have right click.
6: stretch it manually, it should remember its size.

1. The Applications disc is iLife '09 and the standard Mac apps, Mac OS X install DVD is just standard Leopard while Snow Leopard Install DVD is the Snow Leopard upgrade to Leopard.

2. As an addition to Command A you can get to Applications through the Finder, I prefer to make a stack by dragging the Applications folder to the right of my Dock.

4. You don't need a Firewall or Virus scanner on a Mac really.

5. you can make that mouse right click, go into Software Preferences > Mouse and enable right click.

Thanks for both of your replies. I am loving my mac now. All I need is a real chair to sit on (use to have a laptop) and a different mouse, I am quite disappointed with how basic this mouse is but oh well.

What is iLife?



iLife is a collection of applications bundled into every new Macintosh or available for purchase from Apple. The most recent version is iLife '09 and includes the following applications:

• iPhoto is an image management application. It allows users to import photographs from cameras or disks, edit the photographs using basic image editing tools, or create albums and slide shows which can be published on the web or saved to a file.
• iMovie allows users create movies from a variety of file sources. The sources can include digital video cameras, DV-encoded movie files or a collection of pictures. The final result can be written to DVD, CD, DV camera or saved as a file.
• iDVD allows users to create a DVD from movies, photographs from iPhoto, or both. iDVD provides users with a variety of themes and menu schemes. Music stored in the user's iTunes library can be added to the project.
• GarageBand allows users to create multi-track songs from a collection of music loops or from musical instruments attached to the computer.
• iWeb allows users to create simple web pages using content provided by iPhoto, iMovie and iTunes.

In January 2009 Apple released iLife 09, an update to the iLife 08 package released in August 2007. iLife 09 includes updated versions of iMovie, iPhoto, iDVD and GarageBand. iTunes, which is not part of iLife is available for free online and is available for update via Software Update under the Apple menu. Lets cut to the important stuff, what one did you get?

All I know about it is its screen size, it's a 24". Didn't know the 27" were out but probs would of been too big to sit up close to anyway.
