Retro Servers: Are you For or Against It?

I've recently discovered and played the first retro server I ever came across. It's named after a bathroom product and that's how far I'll go mentioning specifically what it is just incase Mods are strict about it. Anyway, with this hotel, it came with basically infinite credits, with the option of refilling it if you ran out.

Now, of course I got excited at the fact that I got all this wealth. In real Habbo, I am the middle man. Probably worth about 10 HCs If you've combined my rares and norms together. But after a few hours it [The Retro Server] got boring, but I still liked the fact I was rich in that game.

One of the reasons I liked it so much was because I got to build the rooms of my dreams. I mean yes having a room of Thrones and Petal Floors and stuff are awesome, but that wasn't really the goal I was looking for because It would be good to show those off, if you actually earned them yourself.

I've also used it to test room layouts so I know how much furni I need to buy, which furni would complement each other, etc.

Long story short, I am for Retro Servers. As long as they are not stealing revenue/money from Habbo, then I believe they shouldn't be closed. I like my freedom of design that comes with the free credits. I'm a fan of The Sims, and this is basically like The Sims Online as I can also play it with my friends. It felt nostalgic as it was the Habbo before BETA as well, which on SOME cases, I've preferred.

retros are okay but most have about 5 active users, all staff, all constantly banning eachother just for the hell of it. Sure, it's nice to make a pretty room but what's the point if you know that you've not earned the furniture to make it. You can't exactly share your room with your habbo friends either since most people avoid retros. They're boring and only really useful for coders

Im for Retros. But Habbo have to close them down as if everybody went on a retro and got unlimited credits, Habbo would lose money.

Kyle, I know alot of retros that have 200-300 people on at a time and doesn't lagg like Habbo does.

I find retros boring, as there is nothing to get.

Also I am not saying every retro owner hacks, but many users that come on here 'ZOMG I IS HACKED' "I did not type in my details to any sites"

Surely, retroservers are running on files taken from the real hotel. But they have these hotels running on their home computers, set up as a server, usually link to some files on the habbo servers. The files they use are copied from Sulake, so no way around the fact the data is the same. The ‘realness’ of the ‘real’ hotel is rather defined by a) ownership of the design, and b) the above mentioned promise of persistence, which no retro can make true.

They’re called retroservers because people used to run really old versions of the hotel for fun. Good old days and stuff. Nowadays, most people running one try to keep up with the latest version of the hotel Sulake has online.

Frank: “Nah, probably not. In most cases it’s just kids playing around, admitted. They should think a little, much more respect to be earned by creating an original fansite, for instance. Yet, if people are able to get a retroserver running, they’re also able to provide you with a keylogger (you don’t even need to be remotely smart for both). And please tell me you didn’t use same name & password you did for the real thing.”

Frank: “Even Sulake does not think retroservers are a big threat. Yes, they have them taken down by hosts, yes, they even take legal action when deemed properly. But ‘properly’ for Sulake is the exact moment these ‘hotels’ are trying to become the real thing. When retroservers start trying to build a community, hold competitions or even start selling their configuration. The ‘Keep it real’ campaign my bosses started didn't accidentally start in US and Holland. It’s countries where (Habbo, and thus) retroservers are popular.”

Well I've never been on a retro but I got bored of the real thing a long time ago before I even got very rich so I can't see the same thing - minus the friends and effort - being terribly exciting. Sure, it sounds great to have an unlimited amount of furni to create whatever rooms you like, but what's the point when there's hardly anybody there to see it? :S

Not that I overly rate Sulake's moral standards, but retros are rightfully illegal and to me, they do not seem any way near worth the risks of getting into trouble over, either legally or with viruses.

Well if your a noob and go on a retro it's Fun for them to experience. Then if they like it they would buy creds?

I actually worked at a fairly big retro a while ago.

Some are actually good, but there are alot with like 3 users at the most, which aren't good
