    Default Charging Damage.

Why is it everyone tells me if you just randomly plug your device to charge (Mobile/Mp3/iPod) it could break/damage/not work it randomly? So my mum said to me I should always wait till it is completely out of battery before charging my iPod Touch, true or myth?

Myth. Arguably, there's a counter belief that making it run flat means more of a chance of it losing charge.

Different types of batterys. Some batterys if they arent flat and you charge them wont work properly again. Its because say there is 50% battery and you charge it, it will think that at 50% its totally flat and that a FULL charge is only 50% of the full charge, however some batterys know how flat they are each time you charge, for instance you could charge it at 50% and it will charge 50% and then next time charge it at 8% and it will charge 92% where other batterys would just charge it to 58%. Just depends on the batterys.

Running it completely flat and charging it again apparantly will keep your battery life better for longer.

Lol I've just been telling my brother that the reason his phone wont switch on or charge is probably because he let it run completely flat. I always thought it was bad to do that, or at least not advisable?

Running the battery flat and charging it will mean the battery's life will last longer, so it is better. But you can just plug the battery in whenever, even at like 99% and let it charge, it won't damage it in any way.

To be fair I do remember reading something when I first got an iPod that said you should let it complete a full charge cycle at least once a month (let it go flat and charge it full).

Yeah, so that the battery would keep its charge for longer, over time batteries don't last as long and this minimizes it (just an fyi for people who don't know)
