Default Help: PC Problem after post

Hello there. My custom built PC has been running fine for around 6 months now, but today I was doing some usual lightweight work on C# and watching YouTube when the PC froze. I decided to turn off the PC by holding the power for 5 seconds so I could restart.

When I restarted the PC posted with the usual beep, the ASUS logo appeared with "Press F1 for advanced set-up" and all that usual jazz. After this, the screen went black, grey, black like it does usually before Windows is loaded but then a coloured bar about 2 pixels in height spanning all the way accross the screen appeared.

It appears this coloured bar that spans across the screen (it's very thin) has pixels of many colours and some appear to be changing (from what I can work out). I have restarted the PC many times, I have taken out the CMOS battery and waited with the mains off to reset the CMOS and I have also cleaned the insides of the PC (not really useful) but to no avail.

I'm unsure at what is causing this fault, whether it be the RAM or Processor (the graphics seems to work fine and the PC posts fine with one beep). So I am really unsure at what could be wrong. All help is appreciated and receives REP, all questions will be answered in great detail and a fix or solution will earn you massive respect.

    Thank you. Tom

Just to let you know, this was posted from my other laptop, so I still have access to the net.

Follow the other advice, but try every combination possible for the PC to be able to boot (that means don't touch the drive with Windows on it). This INCLUDES all PCI and PCI-E cards, and (though it probs won't make a difference) USB devices.

Ok, the computer will now boot and the multicoloured bar is gone. What is left is after the post the screen goes black and in the top left corner there are 7 turqoise coloured bars like so..

    - - - - - - -

Just in the top right of the screen. These show for about 5 seconds and then Windows loads. Not sure what they mean, any help? Also, I'm doing a dskchk just to be sure my HDD is ok. Thanks!
