    Default USB Sound Card

    Evening all,

The laptop I use for work seems to have a dodgy headphone socket which means I cannot attach it the sound system, because it crackles like when a socket is loose (though pushing it in hard doesn't produce any different sound), so I'm wondering what sort of USB sound cards people would recommend?

Ideally it would need to have a good output seeing as it would be used for video, music and maybe films seeing as it's a church and they seem to be doing that sort of thing now.

    I came across this:

SteelSeries Siberia USB Soundcard / Black
    £32.99 Free Delivery

    http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/333582...k/Product.html

But it seems quite expensive, and the building only has two speakers so not sure how the virtual surround sound would go, although seeing as it is virtual surround sound it may make use of the building (obviously a large hall, so sound can fly well). The laptop doesn't have an Expansion Port, so it has to be a USB one

The laptop is a Windows 7 32-bit machine, which I think is the only important information here.

Or if you have any suggestions for fixing the headphone socket, that maybe useful? The sound is fine from the on-board speakers, it's just you can't use headphones.

    Thanks in advance!

I had the exact same problem as you, so I bought 3 off ebay for £1 each (Free P+P)

All were the same product, and each varied greatly on sound quality, one was terrible, one was ok and one was perfect, no background noise etc.

So if I were you I'ld buy a selection, just in case you get a dud
