Default Building Schools For The Future Scrapped by The Conservatives

Bad decision IMO. Would only have cost a Billion pounds per year over the next 5 years and it would rebuild most schools in England, not only would it improve schools but it would give more confidence to the private sector companies which build the schools, but now it's been dragged away from both the companies and also our communities that were looking forward to new state of the art schools.

Do not understand why The Conservatives have done it, I understand you have to cut our debts but this should have been protected, it's not like £5billion over the next 5 years is even going to make a mark on our massive debt.

My school was due to get rebuilt later this year/early next year, it was in its planning phase and we had a £7M budget for it, I'm not assuming our school won't be rebuilt.

Very demoralizing, well done David Cameron.

It's just disgusting. The NHS has been protected from cuts and so should have been our education system.

What is wrong with our current schools that mean they need rebuilding instantly? Are they going to cave in within the next fortnight?

I think it's a good decision really. Improving the building doesn't really improve the school imo. However, what about the schools already being built? Will all that work and money be for nothing?

PS. I don't actually think the NHS is safe. A "super-hospital" was axed here recently by the government. Another idea that a new building would improve everything.

The NHS is protected its funding won't be touched.

If you've seen the state of most of the schools in the Midlands, you'd know that they'd need to be rebuilt.

To be fair you cannot really blame the Conservatives for the mess Labour created, although at the same time I can see where you are coming from when they are refusing to cut the amount of managers within the NHS along with the EU and foreign aid budgets (EU budget tops around £10/15 billion per year and foreign aid is over £11 billion). In reality nothing should be protected from cuts except perhaps the military as we are fighting a war.

At the end of the day people need to remember when they are having all of these things cut/taken away from them to never vote Labour again - it may seem tempting when they are in opposition and you have a tired and run down government, but jesus lets not do it yet again.

The issue of education itself isnt really affected by the building itself and in order to restore confidence in the education system we need to bring back the Grammer schools which we disasterously scrapped a few decades back.

Not too sure if I like this idea or not. My old school is currently in the fase of being rebuilt by this project. Does this mean that will now stop and the school is now in trouble or what?

It was actually ideal for that school as them buildings have been there for years and years and years and it was actually looking very run down and needed upgrades. So I'm quite pleased it was allowed to be rebuilt for that reason. I can see why the stopped it due to money reasons, but surely we should be making sure our schools are actually fit for purpose? Meaning the buildings are good enough for the students and what not.
