Hey,
I need something that can hook up to my tv and play dvds but can also save dvds and allow me to connect the box to the laptop to transfer films. I know some people have them but I don't know what they are called.

Your best bet is to get a box that will stream the files from your computer over your network like an Xbox 360 or Playstation 3 (yes, I know they're gaming consoles!
) and use TVersity to encode the DVDs before they reach the console.

effort ha one of my old mates had this box which he could basically connect to his tv to watch dvds (the dvds were saved onto the box) and he could also connect it to his laptop when he wanted to transfer more dvds onto it
