So I'm going to uni in Canada (same place I grew up/my dad still lives there) and my mom bought a house in a place called Bedford, it's really nice and it's close to my dad but it's 20KM one way if I don't take the bridge, and like 17KM if I do (the bridge has a toll). That's 20KM through city traffic every morning and 20KM through city traffic every evening, it's bloody awful. My brother lived in the house in his first year and he complained to my mom about how much it sucks and how ****** it was having to take a cab to and from the city on weekends because he wanted to party downtown. I assumed my brother was a lazy **** and just wanted to live downtown. He transfered to a different university 2 hours away and he loves it now because he's within walking distance to everything. He has to pay for rent, but I'm pretty sure my mom pays for it anyway. I feel bad complaining to my mom because she put a lot of money into the house to make it nice for us, but it's simply not practical for what I need..

My mom was down this weekend and we went to see my brother because he goes to the same university that my mom and dad graduated from. My brother said something to the effect of "you should get me a house here mom" and she replied "I got you a house, it's in Halifax".. and that was the end of the conversation.. The truth is, if I can't move into the city I'm going to move to the same uni as my brother... I don't know what to say to my mom
