Do you change with your surroundings?

For example, if you were to eat out in a posh restaurant would you employ the same etiquette that you'd use at home or would you put on a social front?

I personally notice that I change and I think everyone does. I would make sure my manners were perfect if say I was having a meal with my partner's parents for the first time. Whereas, if I was at home I'd be more 'natural'.

Yes it's natural. Everyone probably does even if it's unconscious. Relates to something we were doing in English the other week, talking about the face theory; you put on different faces (speaking and acting differently) depending on where you are and who you're talking to.

A good example of this is on the occasions we fly business class, we make the extra effort and wear a "best" shirt, whereas if we were just flying economy we wouldn't feel the need to go the extra mile.

No, I don't but that's because my surroundings are almost always familiar and I tend to shy away from surroundings where I would have to change (eg posh restaurants).

Lol that happens to me all the time, in America my accent changes, in England my accent changes, in Spain my accent changes. Also when im in an unfamiliar surrounding my voice goes softer and higher. When im more comfortable it goes lower and rougher.

I don't consciously change, but I guess if I go into an upmarket place I would act differently than if I was going out on the weekend to the pub for a few beers and a curry. With that in mind though, I don't mind what people think of me, I just do it because I respect the surroundings I guess.

Totally agree, it's a subconciouse change that seems just to be a part of human nature.

If I'm at a mates unless I know the family really well I try to be nice so they let me back

But in posh restaurants I don't really change....well I do. But I normally end up arguing with my brothers anyway.

So I suppose I do but I can snap back if provoked.
