    Unhappy Stressful. Uni.

Overview: Studying Computer Science BSc, Year 2 - Cov Uni.

I've found that university is becoming more and more stressful as time ticks slowly on from day to day, we're expected to churn out bucket loads of assignments within no time at all.

I'm getting quite stressed out with it, and espically since our JAVA logbooks (A place to put the JAVA worksheet answers), has to be all written out and I'm on worksheet 6 and we need to hand in 1-9 by next tuesday. Plus I have entity-relationship model to produce for database design, along with the write-up for that, in for monday and a ten page wiki-assignment to write out about sustainability within a company.

Uhhh, how is it even possible to keep up. Many people left the course last year as it is, I predict more failures again this year. O and our lecturers are basically all foreign too so it's mega hard to understand them! Anyway if I write anymore you won't read so i'll bold what I want answered

How do you cope with your workload?

How do you still make time for friends and family/going out?

Any tips you can provide me with that will help me keep up?

Thank you for those of you who took the time to read it!

Know exactly how you feel, didn't have a clue what my computing teacher was on about 50% of the time last year.

Can't really give any tips for keeping ontop of your work as I normaly don't

Yeah it's ridiculous. I know most lecturers have PH.D's but seriously, have some inspectors sat in the class and monitored some of their teaching? I can't hear a thing half the time, espically from this eastern european teacher, he's awful. No-one does anything about it though, i've complained numerous times!

I know the feeling. I'm a 3rd year Computing Science student. I had three assignments due on the same day. One was a group assignment based on UML design, another was to design a flash presentation after only having 1 practical on it and the final one was a database assignment. This assignment consisted of converting tables from 1NF to 3NF and then input all the data. Each one of the assignments required a report.

This wouldn't be too bad except for the fact I had huge stress at home (Mum being extremely ill and Dad struggling to find a job) which put more stress on me.

I am with you about the lecturers part, majority of my lecturers I can understand as they are either english or scottish. However for a module I just finished we had an Italian guy who could hardly speak a word of english, last year I had a german who would speak very fast.

Another thing I find with lectures is that lecturers mostly read straight off the slides word by word :/

For tips wise: I would suggest when you get assignments out, start them straight away and aim to get majority of one done before starting anything else. Otherwise you will be panicking in the last few days and having to spend about 18 hours in a computer lab doing all of them before the due date (I did that recently, NEVER AGAIN!). Also try to keep a cool head about it, e-mail your lecturers as they won't bite and should be happy to answer any questions you have. They may also give you an extension if you ask nicely and explain that you are struggling to cope.

I have major time-management issues too. Luckily, I'm only in first year atm so I still have room to breathe but my procrastination isn't helping! It's a bit methodical but I find the only way I can keep a balance is to have a schedule and sticking to it, which allows room for friends/family/social life, work and me time.

I feel your pain - Year 2 History student. Thankfully, I only one more assignment in before Xmas, but we've been told we need to start thinking about dissertations already and making sure we have a tutor by March. I have no idea what I want to do and tbh, thats stressing me out more than any work I have. I remember one of the first things one of my lecturers said on the first week last year: 'If your finding it difficult and stressful...COPE!'

You don't get a degree for nothing you know.

I don't know what time scale you're given to get stuff done, but perhaps start it earlier?

I'm finding my course really difficult this year and am going to have to spend a lot of time at Christmas learning my courses as I don't have a clue for some of them. Thankfully we don't have a massive amount of work to do. Only problem is it's so difficult it takes ages.

Second year physics student at the moment. I don't go out very much as I can't be bothered most of the time and would rather save the money.

Well I do 22 hours at uni a week, (4 days).. I have to drive there and back on those 4 days which is an hour there and an hour back. I also work 16 hours a week for my job. So 46 hours a week - with no free time to do work.. If I have to get work done I add that on top of those 46 hours! lol

Well that's the problem with having a job and why it's best not to do too many hours if you do.

Don't you think you should get doing it instead of being on habbox?
