Default Internet speed confusion need help

    Ok heres the situation.

Orange rang us up saying we can get up to 20mb internet NOW for £19 a month with line rental too.

Virgin speed checker says we are on a 20mb line yet BT says were on a 7-8mb line.

Now the £19 a month isnt bad to say we were Paying £20 for 8mb anyway so if we dont even surpass 8 its still £1 off.

What i want to know is... Who's fibbing?

EDIT: This is what i was getting earlier -
This is what im getting after my internet went down -

I'm guessing you are in a cable area? Meaning you would actually get up to 20mb on the Virgin Media package. Orange would use BT's network where the line will probably be limited between 7-8mb if thats what BT says you can get. I think thats is correct but I might be wrong so I would wait and see what anyone else says.

Hence the "up to". I supposed to get 10mbps but I only get 8.45 which is average for my isp. I must say it has improve. I live 10 miles away from my ISP.

It depends how many people are on the connection at the same time as you.
