Default Can't register brand new Vodafone SIM

I picked up a Vodafone PAYG SIM from Poundworld earlier, and put it in a spare phone (Sony Ericsson V630 for what it's worth).

It's got no credit on it, but I want to register the SIM onto an account on Vodafone's website. So I enter my phone number, and supposedly a security code will come through via a text. No sign of any, I've waited over half an hour.

So I found an activation number I had to ring. Where they keep asking me for a PIN. This is a brand new SIM card, there is no PIN.

So I thought I'd ring 191 from my other phone. They want my account details (mother has those)

All I want to do is register the bloody phone so I can top it up (don't want to do it over the phone). How do I do this?

    You tried the number below?:

How do I register my Vodafone pay as you go phone?

It's easy to register your phone - just call our registration line on 17298 from your mobile phone, or go online to My account. You can also update your details in My account if they change.

Calls to our automated helplines are free from your pay as you go phone (or 25p if you speak to a customer services adviser).
You ring it from the phone you want to register I think.

I did but I rang Vodafone directly and they told me to ring 1789, which enabled the SIM
