I have my Galaxy S I9000 and I want to use my tethering, I am wondering if it costs me or something, or does it use the 500mb data allowance, ifso does it eat loads?

From the little I know, it will count towards your data allowance, but it won't use anymore than just using your Galaxy on its own as all your doing is piggybacking the signal to the separate device.
Thanks for the reply, but I need a 100% answer on this. +rep though
It really depends on the network you're on. I sometime use my HTC Desire on o2 as my portable hotspot and it simply counts towards my normal data usage, same with tethering with USB.
Never argue with an idiot, he'll drag you down to his level, and beat you with experience.

Thanks for the reply, I am currently a customer of Orange/T-Mobile so it should be the same, but what I really want to know is if it will just eat my data or will it be the same as using the internet on my phone?
If you get an option for which internet connection to use, pick the one that is the same as the connection you use to browse the internet on your phone, otherwise separate data connections may apply.
It will count against your current monthly allowance, the network thinks it's coming from your phone. The network don't like people doing it, but everyone does. I do it pretty much every day at school.
The amount of data you use depends on what you're doing. Browsing web pages will barely use up any, but watching YouTube will use a lot.
