    Have you ever tried a specific method for weight control?

    I doubt my diet is healthy but it keeps me slim. I use the Atkins diet to lose weight. I don't eat junk food (no takeaways, no mcdonalds) or sugar (no sweets, ice cream etc and this includes natural sugars in most fruit, so I don't eat fruit, only some types of berries) I don't eat bread, pasta, potatoes or rice either. I eat lots of protein and vegetables, however. If I want sugar, I'll use Splenda, if I want an alcoholic drink it's vodka and diet coke...but this halts ketosis for a while (fat burning due to low intake of carbs) My diet right now is certainly not balanced!
    My BMI is in the normal range but I want to be slimmer for aesthetic purposes. When I've reached my target weight I'm going to introduce sugar and good carbs (eg. brown rice, wholemeal pasta) but I doubt I'll eat white pasta and bread too often, if at all.

    This might sound extreme and I certainly would NOT reccomend this diet to anyone without a full medical checkup prior to starting it!!

    So has anyone tried this diet or any other "fad" diets that you hear about? If so, how effective was it? Or maybe you think diets such as Atkins are a load of rubbish? Discuss

    i only tend to eat when its really neccessary, and by that i mean really hungry. its probs not healthy or whatever but i dont really care.

    It's probably good in a way to eat only when you're hungry...as long as you eat reguarly. Food tastes better when you're really hungry as well I think

    um yeah that's good for you and i don't want to jump to conclusions but don't you think that's obsessive? i was EXACTLY like you, actually i still am, where i'd totally avoid certain types of food. the sugars in fruit are good for you, there are more benefits to fruit than negatives and they're necessary. i refused to eat carbs or sugary food and i was totally worn out, i was having memory loss & feeling tired/confused/depressed a lot. there are good sugars and fats. i also don't eat processed or white bread/rice either. if this works for you that's great but you said it's for aesthetic purposes so.... i'm not sure if it's really healthy.

    i don't diet anymore, i just eat small portions whenever i'm hungry. i don't eat more than i need to and rarely sweets/crisps. i don't care about how much or what carbs i eat anymore. i snack on fruits/nuts/natural yoghurt. + i do detox time to time.

    Yep it's totally unhealthy and I definately don't reccomend the diet to people because it's pretty harsh...which is why I'm not going on it for too long. I used to eat so many carbs, especially refined foods like white bread, cake, products with white flour, white pasta which left me personally feeling tired and bloated. I'm feeling okay at the moment but I don't itend to use this diet for the long term.
    What detoxes do you do?

    it's so unhealty to eat no carbs as they dont only provide you with energy but they also keep you hydrated, it is also very unhealty to avoid all fruits as the sugars in them are very good for you and they provide you with lots of antioxidants to keep your body generally healthy. if you do exercise the carbs you do eat will be used up as energy anyway... i very much doubt from that diet that you exercise regularly.

    Personally myself i have worked out how many calories my body will burn from me doing nothing, using something called the scholfield calculation. i then worked out how many extra my body will burn from doing exercise. From this is have set a certain amount of calories to eat in order for me to lose weight yet still stay healthy. I have gone just above my calorie intake to stay alive yet way below my actual needed to maintain my current weight with exercise This works for me as i know i am eating enough to keep my organs working to their full benefit but i am also losing weight.
