    Default Help about The Pill/Contraception?

I've been on the Pill since I was 12 to control periods, I was on Microgynon 30 for a year but it gave me depression and made my periods worse, I then got switched to Loestrin 20 which I've been fine on ever since. I don't really rely on the pill for contraception, more to regulate my periods really. My GP is keen to switch me off the pill to the injection or the implant. The injection is in the bum which I don't mind to be honest but I'm mostly hearing bad things about it. Has anyone had any good experiences with the injection? I'm hearing storys about infertility and stuff on it. The implant however, I don't think I fancy at all, it's just one of those things

Right - I am male and have no personal knowledge of any of this but as soon as I read this I knew that my best friend went through all sorts of contraception methods. You are very kind to me so I thought I'd try to return the kindness by ringing her up and asking her what she thought of your question.

She advises against getting the injection. From her research, she says that it can cause osteoporosis in the long term which makes your bones very brittle and weak. She says there are a couple of other options you should consider like the patch and the ring if you are exploring all avenues. More than anything, though, she thinks you should consider getting off of birth control altogether. It's not good to be on it for too long for most women and if you started on it when you were twelve, there is a great possibility that your period has become more regular and manageable with age. That being said, that's just a possibility and birth control can be a life saver for so many women.

I know birth control helped my mom's coworker. She had something called 'fibroids', I think, on her uterine wall. They irritated things and when she got her period she would have to use a very absorbent tampon plus a pad. Even with that, she still had to change it a few times a day. In fact, she developed anaemia from all of the iron loss. She ended up taking some sort of birth control or hormone therapy to help her period and now she is fine.

I hope this helps! Good luck.

i have had a couple of friends who've had the injection who've had like an on-going period for 7 months when they've started.

    i'd advise the implant.

My mum has the injection and she hasn't had any problems with it, it just varies from person to person everyone is different. I'd advise the implant. Just remember you can't rely on ANYTHING for 100% contraception there's always a small risk with all these things that you'll end up being the odd 1% and get pregnant, likely? Probably not but you never know!

Hope you find what works best for you anyway

My GP said it's unlikely my periods will be regular again because I'm still having a bit of trouble with the pill with them, I was on for 3 weeks at a time and I don't want to go back to that again, I'd probably consider the implant but some of my friends moaned it hurts and I know a few people who have been on literally all the time on it, the injection seemed like an easier option for me than the implant really. My step sister had the implant so I think I might ask her about it :/

I'm in the same boat as you. I've been on the pill since I was 14 to help my periods and nothing seems to help, for the last 7 years my periods have been hell. I'm on a pill at the moment that I've just stopped taking because it's making me so so bloated, but I've not had a period in like 4 months because I took the pill without a break. I'm considering going back to the doctor because I want something that's going to ease the pain but is still healthy for my body. I want the injection but I was told by my doctor I couldn't have it because 1) I'm a lesbian and 2) I'm not sexually active with a man. The implant is good from what I've heard, but the doctor also told me I couldn't have that for the same reasons. Looks like it's a lifetime of hot water bottles, pain killers & chocolate for me! Lmao

Why can't you have it because you're a lesbian? it seems really bad for a doctor to say that. I think I might try out the injection

Because it's for people who have sex with men, so there's more risk of them getting pregnant. Because I'm not sleeping with men, there is no risk of me getting pregnant and it'd be a waste. It costs the NHS more to give out the injection than the pill. I'm not too bothered I guess, just would be nice to have nice periods for once. Boys haveno idea.
