Do you think Facebook will still be around in 20 years or so? I remember when everyone used Bebo and then MySpace... do you think Facebook will eventually reach a similar fate or are they on to a winner?

The company floated on the stock market a couple of days ago and it's worth $104 billion. Will something else come along and Facebookers will move on, or will Facebook continue to introduce new features, ensuring we stick around? After all, people follow their friends. Just look what has happened with Google+!

I'm not really sure, I go on Facebook when I can actually be bothered, the apps I go on and stuff like that rarely work so it's not like I do anything on it. I usually go on to chat but really I could do that over a phone or on MSN etc.

I'm not whether it will be here or not in 20 years, I would say it's plausible as the only competition I know of at the moment is Twitter and Tumblr. and I don't think they are the same as Facebook and have different features. Saying that though something else could begin to sweep the market and then overpower Facebook. Seeing as you can sign in through Bebo via Facebook how long is it before you can sign into Facebook via so and so lmao!

Not sure but personally I've become very bored of it and so have a few of my friends. I've noticed that a few of the old Facebook addicts on my friends list who used to post a status like everyone 5 minutes (ew) don't tend to post anymore or put a status like every other day if that. From my point of view it's not what it used to be as I find it malicious and too many things have happened on there that have made things happen in real life that I just can't be bothered with and I think this is a case for a few other people as well and I think it's kind of dying down but then again I don't know what it's like from other people's points of view

I doubt it'll still be going in 20 years, there'll probably be a new 'big thing' site. Everything has phases, so it won't be surprising. I'm just shocked it's stayed around this long tbh

Personally, I hate Facebook and the only reason I haven't deactivated my account is because it's the only easy way of arranging things with friends.. haha rare. Anyway, I can't stand the ********** and yeah, it just bores me really lol. I hope it doesn't close any time soon though because I'm worried all the idiots on it would turn to Twitter and Tumblr and then it would kill them! Although, I'm sure it'd be gone within 20 yrs as people would probably just get bored of it and find other wesbites they like (pls not tumblr) and spend more time on them.

Unless the internet radically changes, yes. Bebo and myspace were big, but not nearly on the same level. Those really only appealed to the younger generation and even then didn't have everyone. Now it's abnormal if you aren't on it, and pretty much all generations are on it (hell my nan loves it).

Something big would have to happen to have billions of people leaving.

20 years? Not with this amount of popularity. I think within 10 years, probably 5, it will be so corporate based, trying to milk every last penny out of people in the form of apps, promotions and adverts that people will just get sick of it and a better service will start to arise who I think will rise because they will provide an easier service for mobile devices which sales for are on the rise as far as I'm aware.

It will only be around in the way Bebo and MySpace are, struggling and likely to close sometime soon. Infact, Bebo was quite close to closing a year or so back if I remember correctly.

i think people will stick to facebook for a decent amount of time because it's essentially embedded into society. so many people communicate, have photo albums, and organise things on it, that i can't see any alternatives weening people from it anytime soon. i wouldn't be surprised that in 20 years time, it'll merge with something else and thus evolve/advance; but i can see it sticking around for a while and not going down the myspace path. plus, i find it annoying when people ~deactivate facebook because of whatever reasons. seriously, just don't load the webpage :S not like you're proving anything to anyone. my friend did it yesterday and i was like lol, you'll be back on it by next week...

I reckon facebook will eventully die of in about 4-5 years, bebo was only around for a couple of years, people will start to go on twitter, because everyones favourite celebs have twitter and they see what they do and look at there pictures, were as on facebook you cant tell if there the real ones or not
