    Default Dealing with stress/anxiety

I have a doctor's appointment later today, it's a check up for my infection. They're gonna decide what to do, but one way or the other, I have to have a minor operation to remove it.

Anyway, my doctor told me I have to relax, especially for the operation, but I'm terrified of needles and I don't even like doctors that much. I've managed to persuade them to do it in the doctor's surgery rather than the hospital, but I'm really scared about having it done and I need to calm myself down about it.

Has anyone got any tips for calming down? I meditate daily but that only calms me down for a while, once I start doing something else it just comes back to me and I start panicking.

+rep for any useful suggestions. Thanks!

Theres only a limit you can do with calming down really. You just have to focus on being calm and not to think about it. Do remember, it does not always hurt, you may feel something, but it'll be over in a flash. Just look away, take deep breaths. Though they usually help you out on how to stay calm before taking needles.

I always find that doing stuff to get my mind off things usually helps. I know it's going to be quite difficult the morning before but try and talk to your parents and they can help you relax by talking to you as that can sidetrack you. Good Luck for the operation xxxx

I get really worked up and end up thinking about it making it 10x worse than it'll be. I'm trying to be positive - one day (and a few weeks recovery) to relieve 4 months of pain...

aha i just tried talking to my mum about how scared i was and she told me it's all my fault, she has no sympathy and that i was being pathetic because i was crying with how scared i was. when im doing other things it helps, but it just keeps coming round, especially seeing as the pain is constant. thanks

    +rep to both for suggestions!

Just try and have as many positive thoughts as possible and think about how much better you'll feel for doing it. I'm sure you will be fine
