With my family, all the time. But I've been dying for a trip with my friends for the longest time ever. We're planning a grad trip to Japan this year end

Yep, done solo travelling and with family.

Family I've gone overseas a few times, mainly Switzerland and Asia.. And by myself I've been to London and Scotland for two weeks, and two weeks in Switzerland.
I'm planning on going for a year trip to England in May next year (whether it is earlier I'm not sure, but 8-9 months is the latest limit on my time frame.

With friends we only ever go for weekends down to a holiday house in Phillip Island occasionally during the year but mainly over Easter and long weekends,

sounds good@both of you. my family are far too 'above' the possibility of going travelling as a group (unless it includes 4/5 star hotels haha). i doubt any of my friends would be willing to save up enough either, so i think i'll probably go solo; which i don't actually mind really. mind you, i spoke a friend a few months ago about the possibility of going travelling when we graduate but i can't remember who it was lmaoo so i think i'll need to have the conversation again with everyone

done the odd research here and there, but i haven't decided whether i want to literally do it solo or just buy one of the packages where everything is included (just under £2k) and will be with 12/13 other people for just under 3 weeks. the latter just seems easier tbf

Travelling solo (i did it on the other side of the world) was amazing fun. Just have a rough guide as to what you want to do and stay in hostels so you can integrate (obviously research them too a bit!) with people your own age who are there to do the same things as you - travel, have a good time and meet new people.
There was only one day that I felt "lonely" on my trip which was fine, just did my thing anyway. I can't recommend having enough cash saved up high enough! Nothing worse than wanting to do something only to discover that you can't because you spent it all on booze or whatever.

If the book exists over there, look into this book, I'm reading it now and it sums up everything nicely as to what people do while backpacking. It's a travel diary compared to a travel guide

i think i should be able to save up a decent amount by next year; if i plan everything correctly then i should have around £1.5k spare. if i get this job at my union then saving money should be even easier. plus my mum knows that i wanna go travelling so i think she's giving me a massive chunk of money as a graduation present.
@A4R0N;, how much did it roughly cost/how long was each trip?

travelled with family (not good), prefer solo cause i'm that type of guy that likes to do everything on my own. been to mostly asian countries like thailand, singapore, china, hong kong. planning to travel to australia or any other european countries alone when i get a little older and have some money.
