It's my bday on 26th so I've managed to con my dad into buying them. can't wait, was worried that they'd turn it into twilight but it sounds like they've stayed true to the books

The books are as bad, if not worse than Twilight. A poorly cobbled together story which rips off several novels and films which are already well established in popular culture. As if that wasn't bad enough, the author had to throw in a love triangle along with the female narrative to fill in the wish-fulfillment shaped hole which Twilight left in the market. But fair does to whoever marketed the film because they've managed to wrangle in a large amount of people who will go to their graves swearing that Twilight is the worst thing unsliced bread yet will happily pay money to see a film adaptation of a book which is also absolute garbage.

The premise does sound a lot like BR, Running Man and many other works (none of which you'll find credited for inspiration or acknowledged anywhere however).

The books themselves are just plain badly written. I mean beyond the story and the poorly-disguised plagiarism, the sentence structure and grammar are just horrible. The whole thing reads like it's been written by a child. Never mind that they're written in first person...

Harry Potter rips off several novels and films as well, that has never really bothered me if it intrigues me. I never said it wasn't flawed, the writing can be appauling at times, her flowery poetic prose and lack of subtlety are irritating at times. Despite that, I would disagree that the love triangle is like Twilight in the sense that Katniss is not dependent on Peeta/Gale in the way that Bella is on Edward. There is a political dimension to the books that I like that is missing in the Twilight novels. I read books based on whether I like the story not on its sentence structure. I enjoyed the story and so yes, I will happily pay money to see the film.
