    i have a question - is there a way of having information, such as pop-ups, pushed to a page without the use of having an auto-refreshing iframe?

    If your running it on your own server and not shared, you could probably use something like node.js

    Are you wanting to check for announcements while someone is on the page? You can use AJAX for that.
