Default Diselderly - Ends 11th May

Lately I find myself constantly trying to help various elderly people use self-scan machines inside supermarkets. I met one couple the other day who kept putting items on the bagging area, then lifting them off and wondering why the machine kept telling them to "place the item in the bagging area" - one of the staff had to explain five times what they were doing wrong... If that wasn't bad enough, I had to show them how to pay by card.

I think it's safe to say that it's a common occurence to see older members of the public in a state of confusion, so I'm looking to for you to name a time when you've witnessed an elderly person get confused over such a simple task (preferably technology related)!

my boyfriend explained the fingerprint entry thing on an iphone to my nan (i don't know why she even has one) and set it up for her
then when she was trying to get into her phone with it, she kept pressing the button down instead of just placing her finger on and waiting
i kept telling her "just place your finger on the button, don't push it down"
she kept pressing it though and couldn't understand what she was doing wrong, even after i literally showed her :/

Oh God, I once saw an old lady petrified as she walked out of the shop and the alarms at the door were going off - I think she had dementia and had completely forgotten to pay for the items and just walked out.

I felt so sorry for her, she was crying and shaking and aw.

I was working so I couldn't go over, but the security guards were nice enough to her and calmed her down before resolving the issue.

I suppose it's not really technology related, but the alarms are technology

I saw an elderly lady screaming for help because a woman was being beaten up on a TV show and she thought it was real.

A lady was trying to walk up the escalator, but it was for going down. She was confused why the stairs were moving at all.
