Default Invited to a Gym! - What will I need?

    Hai guys!

So today, me and this super cute guy at work were on the same department and we got talking about our plans for college and stuff blah blah blah, and he mentioned that he goes to the gym and stuff. I showed interest in this, shocked that the town even had a gym as I'd never seen it before!

Anyway, he then went on to say he would love it if I joined him and we could be gym buddies! He explained what time it was open etc, and said we could go after work some days if I wanted and he'd show me how everything works and give me tips and stuff. He is so lovely!

Anyway, I'm just wondering, )having never been to a gym in my life!) what sort of clothing is best to wear to the gym? Do people generally wear shorts, or tracksuits, and like what kind of top? Regular polo shirt etc, and I'm guessing trainers, but not sure if any other type of footwear is best?

Also wondering what peoples experiences are with going to the gym? What machines do you use and stuff and do you enjoy it? I'm kind of excited but kind of nervous at the same time!

    Thanks guys ove:

yeah either shorts or tracksuit bottom, tshirt/polo shirt and obviously trainers

not sure what your type if gym will be like but with ours we get induction where they take an hour and go through each machine showing you how to work it etc and taking all your info then we program the machines etc to what we want

depends really how old your gym is might be ancient machines that aren't electronic so just go in and do what you want

Just wear something that you'll feel comfortable exerting yourself in. If you sweat a lot then a dark top probably to hide it until u become more comfortable, some loose bottoms that you can move about easily in and trainers that are comfortable to run in. gl with it bolt, working out is definitely a good way to stay happy and healthy and it's good that you've found someone prepared to guide you

Oh awesome Shorts it is then aha! I think tracksuit bottoms would get far too warm!

It's a pretty modern gym I think, its part of a big leisure complex that has all sorts of other stuff too, even like badminton and volleyball and I used to love those

Do you normally take a towel?

    Woo thanks Kyle

Yeah, I get bored out of my mind sometimes, so it will be lovely to have something beneficial to do! Sounds like a challenge, but a fun one!

I thought it was so sweet how he used the term 'Gym Buddies' LOL

Talked to him loads during my shift this morning, about allsorts which is unusual because I hardly talk to anyone at work normally! I'm sure he'll look after me haha

you can take a small towel for when you sweat and take water bottle, gym should have a water machine

gym will probably have paper towels/cleaning stuff to clean down machines after you're finished, if not wipe it with your towel (if it's all sweaty)

take an ipod or something if the gym doesn't have tv/radio on each machine unless you two are gonna talk a lot

Aww. Start with machines like the treadmill or the stationary bikes, bring an extra change of clothes and deodorant so you don't smell afterwards

    Have fun, Martin!

Depends what you're going the gym to do

Attire for both weight training and cardio for me is the same. Good pair of trackies and running shoes and a t-shirt.

Make sure you take a drink - either like still lucozade or water for both cardio and weight training.

If you are planning on doing any weights then I highly recommend taking weight-lifting gloves if you start going regularly.

That's about it - gyms are usually pretty relaxed. Better if you go to a gym with people of mixed abilities and such..

Like Zak said, it depends what your aims/goals are.

If you want to lose weight, you'll find yourself spending plenty of time on the treadmill. in which case you will definitely need running shoes, without them you can do more damage than you realise!
As for dress wear, the best idea is to probably go there and see what others are wearing and make sure you feel comfortable in what you wear!
