    Default Fashion Worth the Pain?

This question is currently on my mind as I suffer from bad plantar fasciitis and it's all my fault really.
Plantar fasciitis is basically the inflammation of some tissue on the bottom of your foot.

So, I love to wear converse and now I'm into wearing Vans on special occasions. I even wear converse to work. Flat shoes + a high arch = bad plantar fasciitis. The doctor tells me to wear better shoes, I don't listen. I'm sitting here right now wearing Vans and oh my word my foot is killing me, I haven't even walked much.

Is it worth being in crazy pain daily just to stay in that 13 year old 'rawr means I love you in dinosaur' phase?

I can't imagine wearing anything different (I'm a person who has worn the same hoody since 2008, I have more than one of them but it's the same one!), brogues are pretty cool for work I guess but I can't wear those out to the shop or anything.

So yeah, what does everyone think, is my crappy fashion sense worth it? I might feel comfortable foot wise but I don't think I would feel comfortable in any other way.

But also, what shoes do you all wear? Are they comfy? Any comfy shoe suggestions?

Can you not get an instep for your arches which would make them more comfortable. I thought your doctor can prescribe them? and I prefer my feet to be comfortable!! I have bought shoes and worn them the once because I couldn't hack the pain. I have to be very selective especially in summer because the soles of my feet blister really easily and my skin never seems to toughen up so I cant wear like those hard based sandals in summer.

This is kind of the same with me. I was flat footed and was told I couldn't wear shoes that had poor/no arches as they didn't support my feet. This would then have further implications on the way I walked and could also affect my lower back. I spent years going to specialist hospital appointments with this really weird man (that always told me I could start playing rugby??!?!) and he also had a go at me for wearing canvas shoes - every time I went for an appointment I changed my shoes to something more .... to his taste. We just used orthotics which had very strong arches (but I did move towards sturdier shoes). So even now that I have a much better defined arch, I still to this day use orthotics as they shape my entire foot and just act as arches in case my feet started changing again. If we didn't seek advice, I could (worst case scenario) not be able to walk at all and/or walk inwards because of it.

Cutting it short, I wore the wrong shoes because they were in fashion but also switched to sturdier shoes - with additional help with orthotics - in order to wear the shoes I liked! I was lucky enough that my parents got help as soon as they noticed my walking and I now have no problems (although the muscles at the very back of my foot can get quite tight from time to time).

you can just get orthopaedic insoles that will fit into your shoes and support your feet. or become more fashionable.

I'm the same Lauren! I've got extremely flat feet I have no arches at all so I'm always in pain, I get prescribed insoles but they wear down so quickly and now the NHS can only fund one pair a year but my insoles only last about 2 months and they are £75 a pair I will admit I have started to wear better shows though, I used to live in flat slip on shoes but the pain I get reminds me I shouldn't. It doesn't help that I have hypermobility syndrome either.

I got told I could have an operation on the NHS as I walk with a limp because I have misalligned hips due to my legs being different lengths. Everyones naturally has a leg a little longer but mine is noticeable so my hips always hurt, I have to go to physio when it gets worse, but anyway the operation would be on my leg to stretch out the leg and put a metal block thing in my leg to make my legs pretty much the same length. You can still get nice shoes that look good, especially from Clarks so I've just been more sensible with footwear.

It sounds like you already know the answer of course it isn't worth it, just imagine - its only going to get worse with age but if a doctor can't persuade you then I doubt anything anyone here says will! I actually had a similar problem when I was in high school, thought I would get myself a pair of black converse and I did. After the first day my feet were absolutely killing, I wore them a few more times and then it got to a point where I couldn't even stand on my feet they were in that much pain, so I sold them on eBay. I decided it wasn't really worth it, I mean I'd understand if girls killed their feet by wearing £300 Jimmy Choo's and even then I'd say don't wear them, but remember they are only converse and vans

@welshcake; I suffered with plantar fasciitis for almost 7 months. I went to the doctor and he sorted me out some exercises and told me to take painkillers three times a day for 2 - 3 weeks. You can also purchase foot supports from your local pharmacy (I didn't bother but you can).
You don't actually have to go to the doctor to get some exercises; just visit your local pharmacist and ask them what to do. They might be able to suggest some other things to help ease the pain as well. I'm currently using some cream prescribed by my doctor for tendon trouble (& inflammation) in my wrist- something along those lines could help with ur foot.

But yeah basically not gonna get truly better unless you stop wearing shoes that don't support your feet!

I don't think fashion is worth the pain. I like to look nice but I won't buy an item of clothing or a pair of shoes if I find it in any way uncomfortable. If I'm thinking 'is this too tight?' or 'are these shoes pinching my toes?' the answer is already a yes and I know it.
