Default [Article] All About That Bass - Meghan Trainor

This new hit is coming fast up the charts, and I must give an applause to this fantastic artist that is bringing a new meaning to the word, "bass." Meghan Trainor is a youtuber that has brought a major light to those whose image is not your typical model's body with her new hit, All About That Bass. Since the release of this song there has been much debate on whether or not she is become very judgmental towards those who are skinny.
Many lyrics bring around a mentality that only men will love you based upon your size.

Yeah, my mama she told me don't worry about your size
She says, "Boys like a little more booty to hold at night."
You know I won't be no stick figure silicone Barbie doll
So if that's what you're into then go ahead and move along
    I'm bringing booty back
Go ahead and tell them skinny b****** that
I personally don't think that she made this song to get back at those who are a size two, or those who are considered skinny in the eyes of the world. I honestly feel there is a deeper meaning to this song which she portrays in the bridge of the song. She brings around a truth that we should all (both men and women) should be taking into our thoughts as we go throughout our days.

No I'm just playing. I know you think you're fat
But I'm here to tell ya
Every inch of you is perfect from the bottom to the top
In all Meghan did a fantastic job with the song. I am a personal fan of it, and I cannot wait to see some more songs from her to come out.

What do you think of the song? Do you like it?

When I first heard it on radio, I just went wtf by the chorus but now despite the mv being slightly disturbing because I love to see fat people prance around what I dnt even dare to look at myself in the mirror

But I like the every inch of you is perfect part yay

Quite catchy and stuff tho but people r saying its promoting obesity hello wanna complain go to that with the senseless anaconda

well no its skinny shaming and it literally about men liking her body more than anyone elses. i don't see why it's good or how it's not about getting back at 'size twos' when the video depicits a skinny girl being shoved to the side and being a sterotypical plastic girl..
    its terrible lyrics

Even if it was, then we can say that our world depicts the larger population as inferior, so she's singing about the fact that larger women can and will fight back. Let's be honest- it's one song that looks at the perspective of a larger woman.

They're not inferior, just the majority of the world find skinnier girls more attractive than fat girls.

Singing a song about it isn't going to change that, nothing will.

There is a difference between fighting back and shaming the people who have it better than you.

How can we ever strive for equality if all we try to do is shame everyone who is not like us?

i agree empired but there is this stupid stupid misconception that thin people have it better than fat people
    its not true
a fat white women will be privileged over a black women, over a mentally ill person (eg ME so i hate when people say im so privileged being thin, I AM MORE THAN A THIN BODY), disabled women, lbgt's etc.
its not like thin girls get songs for them... no 1 like "i love your flatchest and skinny thighs. tell em fat ******* that", it all about booty butt and skinny waists. which barely anyone has.

i find these songs rly shallow in a way that they're saying society should love them over thin girls. some girls are thin bc they dont have enough money/resources for food unlike u or they cant physically eat.

imagine if it was the other way around. there would be a ******* **** storm. yeah i get the intention blah blah blah but it's just awfully written... she could promote a healthy body image and equality without coming across as so dismissive of people that are skinny. it just defeats the point for me and it just makes her look like an idiot.

literally the entire song is about why it's better to have meat on your bones than to be skinny. as the OP said maybe she's just 'fighting back' against the idea that being large is bad, but is shaming another body type really the way to go about it? should racial minorities fight back against discrimination by saying white people are bad and disgusting? should gay people fight back against homophobia by saying straight people are wrong? should women fight against sexism by saying all men are complete idiots?

it's great to have something other than the norm or what is accepted as beautiful represented like this in mainstream media, but this song is a mess and i do find it quite worrying that people are so okay with the lyrics and that it's so popular.

oh and BY THE WAY is it only me that thinks she isn't even big??
    you can be my daddy
