Raspberry Pi won't stay connected to net

Just trying to set up my pi and it won't stay connected to the internet for longer than 5 seconds before disconnecting and reconnecting.

Tired the adapter that's "made" for the PI, as well as the one I use for my PC, no luck.

The error I get is:

The adapter is the 802.11N, which *should* work fine

try it without the keyboard etc

back on the original Pi I remember there being issues with power consumption through USB (i.e. if keyboard used too much it screwed with every device attached)

If it works when I use an ethernet connection, would I be able to use a Mains ethernet adapter?

Yeah, shouldn't make a difference how it's routed around the house (routers, switches, homeplugs, whatever).
