Default Is spelling/grammar important to you?

My mum is a secondary school teacher (11 - 16 year olds) and I've noticed time and time again when I'm looking at her marking that the kids she teaches most of them cannot spell properly or use grammar correctly.

I try not to be too much of a grammar nazi () but I really really love linguistics and being able to pick apart a language and look at how it really works so spelling and grammar is really important to me.

BUT how can you not love looking at how rules work like I remember the first thing I ever discovered on my own was the reason you say "my friend and I went to the shops" is because if you hadn't gone with your friend you would say "I went to the shops" and not "me went to the shops" and I was AMAZED

Hmm.. for me it depends on where exactly I'm writing. When I'm writing on forums like HxF I feel as though I still speak with fairly good/formal grammar/writing style, but not to the same extent as if I were to write an email. On the other hand there's whatsapp/messaging, where I'm a bit more 'laid back'. What always annoys me is when people use the wrong there/they're/their or you're/your etc

Can't tell if that was intentional or not .

grammar confuses me still, I have no idea how I managed to complete the highest level of Year 12 english...

Spelling mistakes annoy me and I very rarely make mistakes unless I genuinely don't know how to spell a word so I've just guessed.
