The Independent and Independent on Sunday newspapers to cease printing

The owners of the Independent and the Independent on Sunday, ESI Media, have confirmed that they will cease printing operations for the papers in March. They are currently in talks with Johnson Press to sell sister-publication i for £24 million.

ESI Media owner Evgeny Lebedev confirmed the changes in a letter to employees writing: “I can now confirm we are selling The Independent’s sister paper, i, to Johnston Press, subject to Johnston Press shareholder approval.

The newspaper is renowned for its heavily left-wing slant, often using its front pages to promote the euro currency, climate change, and radical feminism.
Great news to wake up to this morning.

Yes my dears there's only a limited market if you read to write how evil Britain is, how white people are bad and how immigration is absolutely wonderful and that market - students, the BBC offices and Islington in London - isn't enough to sustain a national newspaper. So it's curtains for the Indy.

It won't be long now before the print of the Guardian follows too because it too also fails to sell very many copies at all and ironically is only being kept afloat with some interesting tax arrangements in the Cayman Islands. You know, the same kind tax arrangements it criticises everybody else over not paying whilst campaigning for higher spending and higher taxes on businesses and people who are successful.

Always makes me laugh on current affairs programmes when people go "THE RIGHT WING PRESS" well there's a left wing press but nobody buying it.

    Thoughts?

Didn't The Sun endorse Labour 1997 to 2005?

Don't The Sun and Daily Express sell millions of copies?

To be witty you have to say something that is grounded in fact not something you thought of after having one WKD xx

Yeah because the owner of the express didnt sponser UKIPS election campaign at all did he?

And do I really need to talk about Rupert Murdoch and David Cameron being best mates..lmaoo

The fact that the sun endorsed the labour party from 1997 to 2005 says more about tony blair being a red tory than it does about the sun.

And the sensationalist headlines from the daily express and the sun help sell papers trash like
''MUSLIMS WILL CONVERT YOUR CAT TO ISLAM AND MAKE IT WEAR A HIJAB''

''MUSLIMS WANT TO BEHEAD ALL PIG FARMERS''

''IMMIGRANTS STEAL POLICEMANS HELMET AND DEFECATES IN IT,AND WANT YOUR BENEFITS!''

But despite all this which you say, they sell papers, and the Independent and Guardian do not.

Sales figures speak volumes about what people think. Funny how the papers which backed Labour are closing down.

The Guardian and Independent give platforms to pedophile supporters, terrorist sympathisers and communists.

But my opinions are more aligned with the British public than you, as newspaper sales and polling shows.

I am pro-controlled immigration, the British public are.
I am strongly eurosceptic, the British public are.
I back selective education, a strong portion of the public do.
I back cutting state spending, a strong portion of the public do.
I strongly support the monarchy, as do the vast majority of the public.
I back the death penalty, around half of the population agree with me.
I am against pointless foreign adventures, the majority of the public agree with me.
I am against opening the borders of Britain to those from Syria and Iraq, the public agree with me.

Most stuff I post on here is mainstream public opinion which is why even Labour/the Conservatives pretend to support much of the above at election time.

Having a popular opinion doesn't validate it or make it any less ridiculous
