Default Who's the most important artist of our generation?

Who is the most important musical artist of today?

Obviously the factors that make someone "important" will vary from person to person. Personally when I think of 'important', I think of someone who has made work that will be remembered and discussed forever.

So who - if anyone - that is active today is important? and why?

What do you mean by "our generation"? There are ancient people like Bob Dylan who are still touring and recording but don't know that anyone would suggest he's a musician of our generation

If we're talking 90s-now then probably one of the big rap moguls like Diddy or Dre, the genre was an absolute mess in the 80s no matter what the hipsters say and without Death Row Records and Bad Boy Entertainment we'd probably still be on talk-to-the-mic style rap groups like Sugarhill Gang. Can't think of anyone else that's had such an important and lasting influence on such a major genre, certainly not in our generation

I don't think we really have any. Most of the big popular artists today probably won't be remembered in 50 years or so

I've said this to my mum before. Like, we don't have any amazing artists like Whitney Houston, Prince, Micheal Jackson, The Beatles. These people are legendary. I don't see people 50 years from now putting on Justin Bieber and everyone knowing who he is and the words to all his songs.
