    Default working abroad

    hiya

has anyone here worked abroad and like how do you go about it

i'm sorely tempted to go to cyprus or spain for the tourist season and work literally any job (probs bar/waiting). i spoke to a manager in cyprus and he gave me his number and said like they're desp for english speakers for season. quite a few staff wanted signs around the town

it's just such a leap in the dark moving into a rented place without a job though isn't it but quite exciting at same time. but i wondered if anyone else has ever done something as equally mad and any advice

only got home today i wanna go back appaz it hits the 40s there MY DREAM. i even got mistaken for a Cypriot i clearly belong in a hot climate

depends on your situation, if you are working towards a specific career, your time would probably be spent doing something relevant to that.
if you're still in education, will a year out affect your goal?
are you a people person? if not, I doubt its for you - you'll always have a good time if you go there as a holiday but working every day somewhere hot can be exhausting

I'm very biased though, I **** hate most of the people who want to do a season at these party destinations and to me it just seems like a waste of time to go over there to pour liquid

but I guess it will improve your people skills so I guess it really depends on you

well technically i work abroad since i'm irish in the uk

you need to make sure you have everything sorted to allow you to work, a couple years ago i had to get my NI number sorted etc
you need to sort your accom out and set a goal as to when you'll have a job by, so for me i moved over and got a job within 2-3 weeks

yeah it's fine, but you constantly think 'all the money i'm wasting on rent when i could be doing this work at home'

Did you have to get NI sorted because you were Irish citizen of the Republic for UK tax purposes?

And true could be doing at home but it's a life experience really isn't it. I have a friend who has gone over to Spain at the moment and it's just something different than the same thing over here. Mainly weather if I am honest, I would like a proper summer. I'm guessing large tourist cities would be easy to get jobs in...? I just think while I am young it'd be a good thing to try out before getting proper job. Just annoying way I have an exam this July i dno.

It's also good to know the facts. I knew this one would come up.

yeah in ireland it's called a pps number which obviously i had, but because i'm irish it was relatively easy just set up an appointment and filled out a form and i got mine, other nationalities (especially non eu) OBVIOUSLY have a lot more trouble

yeah i used to spend my summers working in london and it was a great experience i'd recommend it if you think you can handle all the drunk rowdy 18-21 year olds going on a LADZ TOUR abroad. realistically once you begin a proper job/career you're not going to be able to do it are you

Im a marketing consultant, I build back end lead generation tools for companies (normally corps). I have been working for Al Jazeera building them an article marketing tool (to rank higher than BBC etc)

Although Al Jazeera sell all their video footage to 3rd parties, then they won't release marketing funds in time so the people we sell the videos to end up getting a better conversion than us, so its stupid BUT IT IS WHAT IT IS.
But now i've left sort of, Im doing it more freelance, trying to get about 30 clients of my own spending £2000 p/m to have a 'all-done-for-you' marketing campaign

but in short i do marketing in qatar
