Reports had circulated that Mr Benn had been encouraging shadow ministers to resign if Mr Corbyn ignored a no confidence motion levelled against him.

The move comes as the Labour head said he will stand again if the party runs a fresh contest in the face of growing unease from MPs.

He made it clear that he is not willing to stand down as he faces public calls to stand down.
Apparently Labour MPs in safe seats - many of which went for Leave - now feel extremely vunerable (think of SNP in Scotland). The accusation is that Corbyn secretly supported Brexit - true - but I am unsure how removing him actually solves the huge disconnect between the party and its voters.

We're expecting resignations to happen all today.

Out of curiosity who is we? You make it sound as if you're party of some kind of news organisation.

Fair enough Cameron, he'd essentially be forced into doing something he strongly disagrees with so that's logical that he would leave (and if shit hits the fan it's going to be aimed at someone who agreed with the results).

But I don't see why him standing down would have any use, party leadership already changed what, not even a year ago?

@scottish; the Royal we. We the people, the nation.

If Corbyn doesn't step down there's a real risk now of an SDP style split of the Labour Party.

A repeat of history after the EEC referendum of 1975. Labour was nearly destroyed over Europe.

Tom watson also apparently said he's disappointing about Benn being sacked and saddened by resignations, so unlikely he'll resign.

    Even more....

Corbyn has issued a statement saying those wishing to depose him must stand in a leadership election, in which he will be a candidate in.

Corbyn is refusing to deny he voted Leave.

I always said there was no doubt as a 40+ year campaigner against the EU that he was going to vote Leave in the polling booth.

Sky News are reporting the following but I haven't seen it on BBC just yet. So don't know how true the below is yet or if the other sites are a bit late.

    Labour No Confidence Vote

The party will vote on the motion of no-confidence in Jeremy Corbyn tomorrow, with the result likely to be received by 4pm.

This happened in the last hour in PMQs. Wow.

By all means it looks as though Corbyn is determined to stand again which begs the question if the membership re-elect him, what next?

Maybe the Liberal Democrats do have a hope of getting some MPs back one day.
