    I hate being told to just cheer up or just carry on because if it was as simple as that, I'd do it. I'm not sure what I'd really want to hear though, more than anything I just prefer the comfort of knowing someone is there for me rather than them saying the right words.

    I don't like being told "things have a way of working themselves out" because it's a baseless statement. Problems don't always conveniently resolve themselves. When you're depressed, or hurting, I think it's important to have somebody who truly listens and is simply there for you. Sometimes words aren't enough.
