The Queen will appoint the new PM at Balmoral Castle on 6th September, the palace confirms

BREAKING: Palace confirms that the Queen will NOT be able to travel to London to receive the incoming and outgoing Prime Ministers next week.
Instead on Tuesday 6 September Boris Johnson and either Liz Truss or Rishi Sunak will have to travel to Balmoral 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

It will be a bit different this handover, as every PM of her reign has done the traditional drive down the Mall to Buckingham Palace.

Although I have my preference, I feel sorry for whoever is about to take over as PM - the winter ahead looks set to be very grim indeed.

Liz Truss is now Britain's 56th Prime Minister and the Queen's 15th Prime Minister.

After the kissing of hands, she'll head back down to the capital to begin appointing the new Cabinet this afternoon/evening.
