Debate Topic: Religion; Yes or no? Is religion good or bad in your eyes, should religions be banned? kept open are they artificial?

My view:

Okay, well hberes what I think on religion, I, my self, I have no religion, I'm against any religion and god because I believe that there is no point... No point in believing something which you ahve been told by someone else to believe in and to understand.
My friend is a catholic and he get's told what to do and what he should do... How is that a way to lead your life? It is YOUR life and you should be able to lead it the way you want, right? Apprently these guys don't think so, (Don't get me wrong, I've got nothing against people who are in a religion).

So why do religions? To get into heaven? To be rewarded in your afterlife... It's like saying... "Hey, go shoot someone, it's the right thing to do, it will get you in good with god!" For all you know god could be some raving psychopathic loony who was born into it and he tortures people in this afterlife.
(You may be thinking "what the hell is going on about, god is a sweet, kind and gentle person who loves his children). Says who? The religion?

This is what I don't get, apparently people in the 'religious buisness' guide you towards god because they have had dreams of them and feel the need to guide you towards the after life and heaven. Some people also claim to be seeing the Devil in their dreams and have been scared of what he's been doing. (Killing, slaughtering and 'evil' deeds) How do we know this isn't god?

On Earth today we have many religions (Like the ones that have Suicide Bombers) and others which kill in order to 'please' their religion.
Now tell me, what kind of god would accept that? Maybe the Devil is the true god? And we're just seeing a faux of what is really the truth.

Why do people become religious? My views on this is because they're afraid to die, they are afraid of what happens 'next'. (Hence what I think the Bible was written for).
'Those afraid to die, are religious', in my opinion, that is 100% correct... You pray to God/Devil so that you may someday join him in Heaven/Hell, worshipping somethign that you don't even know that exists all for a religlion that is telling you that you have to in order to lead a good life... Why?

If religion is so good, why do we have people like the suicide bombers and 9/11 plane terrorists that do these things for their religion?

I have to disagree with ya there Trunks. I have a religion (Christianity) but I'm not afraid to die. Heck, just yesterday I wanted to.
According to my religion and the bible, Many people thousands of years ago sinned agasint God because they were being led in that way. In the bible, it says God got angry with the people for not believing in him and worshiping other things, and killed those who did not believe in him.

The book if revalations states:

The Seals where broken open by the Lamb and out of one of the seals, a pale coloured horse named Death came out along with Hades to spread Disease, war and famine across the world

If you read the book of revelations, everything that is happening is signaling the end.

People who have a religion are afraid to die.

I totally disagree with this!. People have a religion because of the things they believe, not because they are afraid to die. I like my religion and wouldn't go to any other because of the things that I believe.

Before i put what i say i don't want anyone to have a massive arguement with me coz what i do say is my opinion. Right glad i've got that sorted.

I don't have a religion myself, i just find it hard to believe that theres a "higher spirit" who made us all and is "all knowing" and "all powerful". To be honest somebody who has all power is quite a frightening prospect.
And also it says that God made Eve out of Adam's rib, do you Christians actually believe that? You can make someone out of a rib??!??
Also religions are the things that cause most of the wars we go through.
Muslims turn into terrorists because they think they are doing the right thing for Allah, Hitler killed all those people just coz they were Jewish etc the list goes on.
Also to be told what to do everyday of your life day in day out by some book that nobody has a clue who wrote (supposedly some bloke called Jesus who manages to turn water into wine!). You have one life in my opinion and you should live it how YOU want to live it.

I must say i agree with you on many points Trunks.
Personally, religion was created way way back by the authourities to unite their people under one aim and to help control them and give them purpose. With a religion, men in battle could be encouraged by stories of how they would be looked upon favourably by God for killing the enemy. The idea of a God figure could be used as an answer to the un-answered questions - what happens after death; why are we here; how did life begin, and so on. It is true that without religion many wars and confruntations between nations and races would not have taken place. If it were up to me i would abolish all religion, but that's pretty unlikely to happen :rolleyes:

Well some Christians do believe that so dont mock that. If a dog can be cloned then i'm sure another person can be made from a rib.

Religion Is false in my eyes, and provably, god for instance can be proven by pure rantonal thinking to be immposible due to the paradox of omnipitance.
Religion is a method of control, A way of forcing a view, for a motive, Some good, Many Bad.
Religion in itself, just controls people, is a way of inforcement when a phisocal method can not be obtainedf, its easy to warp, and strives by causeing Ignorance, breeding stupidly, keeping people dumb, and is in direct opperstion of any truth, or realty, hence why religion attempted to abolsih sciance, burned people who speaks agaiat it (and this is cristantly btw, wich has been responceibe for infinatly worce things, than any of the modern day problems wich is just the hypocaisy)

I belive in truth, i would like to know whats is real, make conclysions based on evidance, not make evidance based on conclusions.
So Yes i dissargree with it on many levels. BUT banning it, Never, relgion is a method of oppreson, tahst one of the prime reason im agasite it so NO, i would not support oppression of anything, eveyone should belive in what they like, its called freedom, and somthing im in support of "/
