    ¤ Kadaj's Question Emporium ¤

Whats this thread for: Many of you have questions about physical/mental health and drúg related questions and they cannot be answered because in real life, you do not know who to turn to and who to ask these question to. People are scared to turn to people in real life because they think they might judge them for how they feel or what they think.
Online you get the sense of security that the people you talk to are in the same boat as you and they will not make fun of you or think you're stupid.

What I aim to do: I am to answer all the questions that you may have related to personal health and anything else that you may need to know about how to recieve that help. (If I can't help).

Who am I: I'm Karl, your friendly neighbourhood spide... Advice man. Rest assured that if you don't want to post your problems (If you have any) you can always Private Message me and you will remain in total privacy.

So, welcome to my little thread which hopfully will reach up and be able to help you all out!

The only thing I will not answer as it's against the forum rules (I think) Is sexual related questions.
Some I will, if they're to do with STD's/STI's and health related but, I will not awnser questions like "iz seeexx gooood?!". So please post like the good people you are! ^_-

Aww, smoking is a bad addiction.

Breaking the addiction: Despite its addictive nature, nicotine doesn't hang around in your body long (about 48 hours) once you've stopped smoking. For those who choose to go cold turkey, withdrawal symptoms are likely to be at their most intense in the first two or three days and will gradually fade away over the following two or three weeks. For those who simply can't contemplate going cold turkey, research indicates that using nicotine replacement therapy - now available on prescription - can more than double your chances of staying stopped.

In the same way that you might associate certain times of day with specific activities - such as a shower when you get up in the morning - certain situations and events become very strongly associated with smoking in your subconscious. Pavlov showed that if he rang a bell when he fed his dogs, after a while purely ringing the bell was enough for the dogs to salivate. In the same way, even though you have made a conscious decision to stop smoking the association with certain situations will take time to disappear.

Before you stop, try and become aware of when you smoke and why. Once you have identified your reasons for smoking and your triggers, they will become much easier to break.

Emotional triggers: Whilst breaking the physical addiction to nicotine is hard, for many smokers breaking the habit - the psychological addiction - is much harder. This is mainly because smoking is likely to have become deeply ingrained over many years and has therefore become an integral part of many emotional occasions. Sad or unhappy, bored or having to concentrate hard, happy and relaxed with friends - cigarettes are likely to have played a part in almost all of these situations. Again, being prepared helps.

The steps to stop: To really understand your smoking habit, it helps to keep a smoking diary for a week before you stop.

Then note down when you think you might miss smoking. Write suggestions for what to do instead. Focus on why you want to give up and what benefits you think you'll gain and write them down too.

So, ricky, keep a diary about your smoking before you start to quit and then fill it out and write down, did you enjoy it? Did it help you relieve the stress, why did you have it? How long did you wait between the last one, etc...

Get lots of emotional support from friends/family and if you feel like having one, ask them to help you get through it by playing a game with you (I reccomend a board game with the family) and just really try your hardest.

    Good luck ricky.

Well, my mum smokes, my nan smokes, my grandad smokes and all that, I don't smoke.

All about will power. Just get some support, sit your mum/dad down and tell them your serious about this and you want to stop, ask them to not smoke in-doors, outdoors only, ask for help if you feel like one.

Good advise.. get someone involved set short-term targets it can be hard to stop completly from having 10 a day to 0 is a bad shock to the system slowly pull yourself off and reward your self with small things or maybe a game you want when you maybe haven't smoked for 14 days etc.

Exactly, just have a strong mind that you won't... And tell your parents to stop you comming online if you do have one.

I also advise you try the patches again, maybe the stongest ones to start off with then go onto something lighter when you have the sense of control again.

Let me know how it's going or what you decide to do!
